As long as they arent coming in direct contact of a lesion they should be fine. So in other words as long as the cat/dog doesnt lick an open herpes sore that is oozing bacteria and blood out or that type of thing, then no it probably wont spread. Chances are also reduced when the person hides his/her lips from the animal being able to lick, which many people do because they dont want to be kissing dogs that have been eating everything off the floor. That being said, Im not even sure herpes can be spread to dogs/cats from a human.
