Different areas of the body have different amounts of tissue, such as the breast vs your back. Tests to "determine things" sometimes have to be repeated. Not because THERE IS something wrong, but because the fatty tissue doesn't "allow" for a clearer picture on that area.
The person looking at the "pictures" can more or less "see" if there are abnormalities. If not exactly sure they they might want to do another type of imaging test or depending on what they "see", a biopsy might be scheduled by a trained specialist. "Catching" things on time and working together with your doctor, you can find a solution...Take the first step and tell him....I know your doctor is the best qualified to determine what the best method of treatment is.

X-rays can show bumps or tumors caused by cancer but they cannot diagnose it.

cant xray. thats just for bones pretty much

No
they would need to adjust the x-ray to find lumps
and then if they do
it wouldn't be enough evidence
because an X-ray is made to look at bones
they would have to run an MRI or CT anyways

My nephew has had bouts of cancer for 10 yrs and is presently going through his 3rd round. His was found by MRIs and CTscans. Another friend has lung cancer. He went to his GP and a regular x ray was taken, and there was what doctors call 'shadowing' on one of his lungs. They then did a further testing at the hospital and found it was cancer. A regular xray may show some type of mass, but I believe further testing is always required to find out exactly if it is cancer or otherwise.

i think it shows up as blotches on an x-ray then to be sure they send you to do an MRI

x-rays can show the effects of cancer like tumers but can not diagnose it

In most cases a definitive diagnosis of cancer is made only after a tissue biopsy is examined by a pathologist.

Certain masses/tumors look suspicious under x-ray, MRI, ultrasound, CT, or PET scan, but AFAIK these are never used as definitive diagnoses.

No! There is no form of imaging that would be able to confirm cancerous cells. The only thing that would come close is a PET scan ant that wouldn't identify anything smaller than about 1 cm in diameter, which if cancerous would comprise of over 1 million cells. Only way to detect and identify cancerous cells 100% is through a biopsy.

X-Rays will only identify fairly large mases which may or may not be cancerous.
