Why do I cough when I lie down?!

Question: I got this nasty cough, chest has been xrayed, nothing there, but whenever I lay down, even if just to rest for a few, I start coughing. I am going to doc, no worries there, but just wondering if anyone has any ideas what could be going on? Thanks, Lainey

Have you been testing for Gastroesophageal reflux?

One of it's symtpoms is coughing while laying down or while sleeping.

See a doctor.

I get postnasal drip whenever I lay down and it causes me to cough up the mucus.. This could also what's causing your problem.. Have your doctors said anything about this?

i used to do that but i didnt go to the doctors it was just a cold i think
it helps if u put loads of pillows on your bed when u sleep cause i got really annoyed that i kept coughing lolz

It might be that you may have snot draining from your nose, into your throat causing you to cough. I just had a cold for 2 weeks and coughed alot due to that and the dry air in my room. Maybe the air is dry in the room/house that you live in. If you need to, put a small bowl of water in the corner and it wont be so dry in the room.

because the fluids in lungs go from the bottom to upper and into bronchial tree

Well when my asthma flairs up it gets worse when I lay down because of the mucus that builds up with the asthma. This does not show up on xrays. Do you have problems breathing in the daytime? Sometimes you don't have problems in the daytime to have the problems at night. The doctor will find out. You may ask him about the possibility of asthma because sometimes family doctors don't always look for asthma. Good Luck
