Usually by 7 days, it should pass. Antibiotics sometimes don't work for some people, so you may want to go back to your doctor and get another prescription. I used to have many sinus infections throughout the year and finally got my deviated septum fixed, it helped with drainage and breathing, but is still got infections. Now I also use a netipot and sinus rinse from the neilmed. Now I rinse twice a week and haven't had a sinus infection for over 3 years now. It is great. http://www.unimedprod.com/

Sinus infections last for weeks or sometimes months. If your not better by mid week, I'd go and see the doctor again. Sometimes certain antibiotics don't work and need to be changed. Also, ask for decongestant pills. Using saline nose spray is good also. It is healing and aids in breathing easier. You can also ask for a steroid nose spray use only 2x day for 3 days. It will shrink nasal congestion and help breathing. Overuse will cause nasal stuffiness though so be careful not to abuse it.
Good Luck

On antibiotics, you could still have symptoms after seven days, but they should be lessened. Some people have symptoms of a sinus infection, but it is actually something else. You may have a lot of "crud" in your sinuses and need to flush them out. Just getting rid of the infection does not clean out the debris and mucus. Call your doctor and let him/her know that you are not feeling better. Get in a hot shower and try to run warm water through your sinuses or use a mild warm saline solution to flush through your sinuses to clean them out. Certainly, this would not hurt (as long as you are careful to be gentle and not irritate the delicate linings of your nasal passages and sinuses) and could help. But in the end, if you are not getting better, your doctor needs to know. You may need a different antibiotic. Hope you feel better soon.

There seems to be a horrible sinus infection going around in my area that lingers for weeks. I've heard Zicam is working well for people. Definitely do the sinus wash that others have suggested. Make sure the infection doesn't settle in your chest, as it can turn into pneumonia.
