I have the flu...how am I doing in aiding my recovery?!

Question: Well, my dad got a flu shot about a week ago and came down with the flu, who then passed it to my mother, then my sister, and now I am the last one to come down with it. Right now I just have the sore throat, exhaustion and coughing...I'm trying to help myself before it gets worse but my dad and mom are in BAD shape so I'm scared to see what I'll be like when I wake up tomorrow.

As soon as I woke up this morning, I went out to the drugstore and got a tube of Pink Grapefruit Airborne and the gummi throat Lozenges. I really wanted Zicam but every store that I went to didn't have the one that I wanted so I just stuck to the airborne. As far as I know, you can't even really fight the flu with medication, so Vitamin C is probably my best bet...right? I'm taking the Airborne every four hours and a lozenge at around that time as well..or whenever my throat gets dry and really sore. Any other tips? Is what I'm doing ok or should I be doing something more to aid in my recovery? Thanks!

Vitamin C. Lots of it. (You can't overdose on Vitamin C, so take the whole bottle if you want to and if they taste good. ;p Orange flavours are always the best.) Blow your nose. And alot. You have to keep that mucus flowing out of you or else you'll congest. Keep warm. Warmth kills the flu. Always keep warm. Drink alot of water or fruit juice like Sunny D (Juices with Vitamin C). That will help the mucus liquify so it won't be all sticky and green. Hot lipton soup is great for the flu.

Other then that, you're doing pretty well. Good luck with your flu. Hope i helped.

with your medicine

I'm no doctor, but Vitamin C is always a good thing to get. Keep yourself hydrated. Sleep a lot, and under a lot of covers (that will raise your body heat, which some viruses cannot stand).

I'm in the same situation! It started last night for me, but today I'm feeling a lot better. Some other things that are proven to be effective is garlic, and ginger. I've been eating a lot with those in it along with one airborne a day and orange juice. Google garlic and the flu or ginger and you'll see.

First off....taking a flu shot so late in the season
is not good....it was a waste of time....You need one in
the fall...I got mine at the beginning of Oct. and have not
been sick one....
That being said...Lots of fluids mainly water to just flush
out your body and keep it cool in case you are running a fever
and to keep hydrated....Next just stay in bed and relax
or sleep....going out and doing things especially when its
cold outside isnt good and you spread your germs around
to others....Take tylenol or whatever you have taken for
aches, chills etc....

i would gargle with warm salt water. also take zinc if you cant get zycam. drink lots of tea or hot water with honey, lemon, and ginger. honey and the salt water will help kill any bacteria or infection in your throat. drink lots of water. sip hot broth. sleeeeeeep.

vitamin C is #1 medicine

zicam and airborne are to supposedly help shorten the duration of a cold. If you truly have influenza, they aren't going to do anything for you at all. the only thing a person can do if they really get hit with actual influenza is get to the doctor immediately and get some tamiflu, but you have to go within a few hours of the first symptome or it is too late for it to help you. all you ca do now is stay hydrated and take medications that help make you feel better like tylenol flu that will help with the cough and sore throat.

drink lots of fluid... orange juice and/or tea with lemon and honey work best!

hope this helps!!
