Chicken pox help????!

Question: Ok, I have a mild case of the chicken pox. Less than a dozen blisters on my arms, back, and scalp. It is the second time I have gotten the chicken pox. Should I go to school? Is it still contagous? At first I wasnt sure if it was chicken pox, but thinking back it makes sense. I had a few "pimple things" on my head that started bleeding, and I had a very bad headache on Friday. I feel neuseous right now. So should I stay home? And for how long? I feel sick, but not so sick that I cant go to school. However, I got it from someone at school so I wouldnt want to spread it to my friends and other people. Help!

I had chicken pox when I was in elementary. Well, sad to say, when I was in middle school I had blisters on my lower abdomen and had a bunch of other symptoms. A week after it all started, my mom took me to my primary physician who told her that I had shingles. Which is what people get if they have already had chicken pox already. Chicken pox and shingles are categorized as a virus.

When a person gets chicken pox and the signs of it go away, it is dormant (asleep) in the person's system. The main thing that can trigger it to come back (wake up) are things like a cold, stress, etc. These kinds of things can make it hard for the immune system to keep the virus at bay. It is not very common for younger people to have this happen. Which is why there is a vaccine for elderly people for shingles. It's more common for the elderly because their immune systems don't function as great as when they were younger.

The best thing that you can do is to see your primary physician who can properly diagnose what you have. The last time I had an outbreak (last year), my primary physician told me that shingles are not contagious as long as the person you around has already had chicken pox. If a person has not had it yet, they would have to touch the area in order for it to spread to them.

My daughter's primary physician nurse told me that she was given the vaccine for chicken pox so she has a less chance of getting it from me.

So, again, see your primary physician who will inform you of what you should do as far as going to school, etc. I hope you feel better soon. I know how miserable it can be to have it again and again.

stay home and see a doctor!

I had the chicken pox twice as well. And I can tell you that yes it is still contagous, if your head hurts, have you checked for a slight fever? well this time should be your last depending on the severity.

Yep, don't go to school. Stay at home and let it heal. It's highly contagious yet.
Two weeks is the alotted time, I think.

Go to the doctor right away and don't go to school because if you do they will just gonna send you back anyway

I'm not quite sure that you can get chicken pox twice, but if it is you are still contagious until the they have crusted over.

Stay home. See your doctor for a topical ointment that will help relive itching. you are contagious until the blister scab over and you can infect someone who's never had it just by touch. It is unusual to get it twice as you have but it's not that rare. Tell the school you may have picked it up form someone there. They may want to know that and research it....it can be spread by touch...it's not an airborne virus. Try not to scratch it, get some ointment for it. It's prescription type so you're Dr. will have to assign it to you.
