If pathology report has brc1 mutations on it does that mean you are at risk for !

Question: My Oncologist wants me to take the genetics test to see if I am at risk for developing other cancers. She said that just because it has brc1 on my pathology report does not mean that I am at risk for developing other cancers and she also said that the pathology report is just basing this on the fact that I had breast cancer. Do you feel that she is right?

A standard pathology report would not report a BRCA1 or 2 analysis; this is a test done through another lab, Myriad Genetics. A pathologist might comment that testing would be reasonable due to the pathology and your age for instance, but standard pathology examination can't tell whether you are positive or not for genetic mutation.

If you have one of the mutations, it is not a guarantee you will get breast or ovarian cancer, but your risks are very high.
