What should be done to protect my 11 month old son from his mother with MRSA?!

Question: We have taken him out of the home until she is finished with her medicine, but should we throw all of their clothes away and toys?

sounds a lot like overkill to me. As long as she maintains good hygiene, like frequent hand washing, continues to take her medication, she isn't going to give the little guy anything.
All kinds of staph, including MRSA live on our skin and don't cause a bit of trouble. The infection occurs when there is a break in the skin that is not appropriately treated. So, keep the baby's skin in good shape and there won't be a problem.

I would contact your local Department of Health for advise.

I would wash everything in bleach........the toys, the clothing, etc. Make sure you remember the bed linens to bleach out, too. Bleach seems to kill the staph. Don't forget the toilet and the bathtub..........as well as the floors. I like that you are being so careful with the baby............that is so smart!!!!!
