Chemo tingling?!

Question: I can not remember what it is called but when the chemo causes that tingling numbness in your hands and feet. How long does it take to stop after the chemo stops?

Neuropathy. peripheral neuropathy. How long it lasts depends on what type chemotherapy drugs were used, at what dosage, what type cancer and luck also figures into it. Here is one web page that discusses this issue.

Neurontin and Lyrica are both drugs currently being used to help with the pain of chemo induced peripheral neuropathy.

good luck with this. neuropathy sucks

The above respondant is absolutely correct. Peripheral neuropathy can last for a very short time after the chemo treatment ends or if the damage was severe it could last for years.

In my case, I experienced fairly severe side effects as a result of very high dosages of Cisplatin, which is a known neurotoxin as are many of the platin chemo drugs. Almost 13-months since treatment ended and I'm still experiencing severe numbness of hands, feet and limbs. Have been to see a neurologist and the oncologist indicated that I may have some cerebral as well as peripheral nerve damage which may take 3-4 years to improve but probably will not go away altogether at all.

Our neighbour had a similar experience and is still effected by numb tingly feet and his last lot of chemo was some 20 years ago!

Peripheral Neuropathy
Mine stopped after chemo was over, but many people have more problems with it. While you're on chemo, you can ask your doctor for Neurontin - a medication for nueropathy.
Best wishes

edit
my neuropathy was due to Vincristine
