I'm glad you don't want to go to the hospital. One does not go to the hospital for a cold. A cold is an everyday occurrence that does not require medical attention, especially not emergency medical attention. And a doctor can't do anything for your cold that you can not do yourself.
Taking medicine for a cold is not necessary either, if you don't want to. Your cold will be gone in a week if you take medicine, or it will be gone in the same amount of time if you don't take anything. Just rest, relax, and have some herbal tea. Make yourself warm and comfortable, and wait it out until your cold is over.
It's a cold... Suck it up, everyone gets them.
The only cure for a cold is rest and fluids, and let your body fight it off.

As far as a simple sore throat, try honey and lemon in tea, or sasparilla cough drops.
why not go to your regular doctor for a check up. he can determine what it is and it's alot cheaper than going to the ER.
