Should I go to the ER?!

Question: I have had a UTI for more than a week now, and today it has gotten a lot worse. I cannot go for more than ten minutes without urinating. The only reason I worry is that I do not want my kidneys to get infected. I do not have health insurance, so it is a big decision to go to the ER, and I only want to go if I really need to.

That "muscular" pain that you feel is internal and it is called a kidney infection!
I have had kidney infections before and it began with a feeling that I pulled a back muscle. It didn't take long and I had a fever and was seeing double and very sick.

Do you have a Urgent care center in your area? I really wouldn't wait too much longer to be treated, but the ER might not be your answer either. Call a doctor first thing in the morning! Never let a known UTI go because you CAN NOT treat it on your own.

WTF? just gooooooooooo

call your local hospital and see if they have a number to ask-a-nurse. Call them and they can help you with this problem, or tell you if you should go to the ER.

Go- ask for financial help if you need it. Better to be safe and owe some money than other alternatives.

you can try cranberry pills and juice Take a pain-relieving medication. Use a hot-water bottle to ease pain.
Drink plenty of water. Avoid coffee, alcohol, and spicy foods, all of which irritate the bladder. and here are natural pills http://www.naturallydirect.net/urinary-t...
but for as long as you had it you should go see a doc.

Agree with Gooooo

I think you should go to ER. You sound BAD, my mom is a doctor and she would probably say to go to the ER too.

Get better!!!!!! =]

YES, go to the ER and tell them you don't have insurance. They cannot refuse you and they might have a program to help where you don't have to pay as much or anything. Don't put it off though, your health is more important than money.

Cranberry juice, and cranberry pills.
My friend had the same problem, within 2-3 days it got better. (and she was sick and tired of cranberry in any forms) but it does help!!!
If you don't get better in a few days, go to doctor..

It has been a week, I would wait one more day and go to a Dr. which would be much cheaper than a visit to the ER when all you need is a prescription for antibiotics. I know you are urinating a lot but drink all the water you can to help flush out your kidneys to help prevent infection till you go to the Dr.

agree with jen take lots of cranberry, but i had one just like that a few months ago was peeing every5 min and it hurt bad but i just took the cran and it went away. if you cant aford to go to the doctor i would give it 12 to 24 more hours as long as your taking the cran good luck

There is a product called AZO Maximum that you can get in any drug store. It should help with the pain until you can get to a doctor.

Is there a walk-in clinic near you? If so go to that. It will be a lot cheaper than the hospital.

Don't go to the ER. The ER is for big emergencies, like car accidents or shootings. Go to a doctor's office. They can likely get you in that day, and it will be much cheaper than the ER.

Kayle you do NOT want to risk Kidney Problems because you let an infection get really bad. Trust me! I lost my original kidneys when I was just 16 due to infections over and over again (and to the person who said to be clean, that has NOTHING to do with a LOT of cases - mine was due to reflux).

Do not let it get this bad! A friend of mine (and in his case it might be cleanliness) he finally went in as it got so painful (yes guys can get it too!). You need antibiotics! But yes, Cranberry juice will help but if you have let it get so bad that you are worried about damaging your kidneys then GO IN to a clinic NOW! You are in the USA! They can NOT turn you away!! (I am in Canada so correct me if I am wrong). Even if you can't afford the medication, they can give you samples. Let them know you don't have coverage.

Don't worry about the money right now! They can't take from you what you don't have! But in the long run it is MORE costly if you lose your kidneys and have to go on dialysis!

YOU NEED TO GO--NOW!!!!!!

if money's an issue you can either try going to a county emergency room (at least the one I work at will enroll you in medicare to help pay for the visit) or you could try going to a local planned parenthood office and being seen there.

in the meantime, make sure you're drinking cranberry juice (it actually does work) and you can take OTC pyridium if you've having any pain. It is important to be seen, though, especially if you're having back pain or getting fevers; those are signs that it may have spread.

If you do not have medical insurance, and you have waited this long to decide to seek medical attention, you can just wait until tomorrow to see your family physician. UNLESS, you have fever, an oral temperature of 101 degrees or greater. An ER visit will cost way more than a visit to your physician. Drink water, cranberry juice, and take OTC Azo, ask your local pharmacist to point it out to you. (Azo is like Pyridium, once taken it will turn your urine orange, and will numb your urinary track when voiding) Early, tomorrow morning, call and make an appointment with your doctor.

You should go, if you are seriously sick (which I'm not saying you are) you could face major medical bills or death, but if you go and they help you, you could avoid serious health risk. Is breaking your budget worth dieing for???

I think not.

Be on the safe side and go.

Have you been taking anything for your UTI or have you just left it untreated for a week? If you want to find out for sure if it is a UTI go to the pharmacy and pick up a test, to test for Urinary Tract Infections at home. Once you determine that it is in fact a Urinary Tract Infection, get yourself some Urinary Pain Relief Tablets (Pyrididine) from your local pharmacy along with some cranberry tablets. Follow the instructions on both packages for 5 days. If you still have problems, see your doctor. If you do not have medical insurance, go to a community health clinic, or an e.r. that services everyone, they have to see you whether you have insurance or not. You can been seen at a community health clinic on a sliding scale based on your income though, which can save you a lot if you are low income.

just be cleaner
