How much should I expect to pay for diabetic testing supplies?!

Question: I need Ascensia Contour test strips and Microlet lancets. I am on a tight budget and wanted to get some idea before I go to the store.
Will most insurance pay for these items?

If you live in the US, ask you MD to call in a prescription to your pharmacy. You should expect to pay your normal copay for brand name prescriptions for the strips (I paid $30), and about $10 for the lancets (they cost $10...I do not think insurance paid anything). Without a prescription, a box of 100 testing strips costs around $100. Expensive, huh??

Good luck to you!

I live in the Uk and get all my diabetes medication for free. But i take it you dont live in the uk? Sorry not sure then - move to the UK lol !!

In the Uk, these are free on prescription. Not sure about the USA, sorry. Best bet is to check direct with the insurance company. And please, no matter how tight your budget, don't miss testing as this is very important to to your health.

Yeah!! the insurance will pay most of the cost of the strips; if the meter you are choosing is the one they like, they will pay it all. Otherwise they fine you by making you pay 50% and up the cost of the strips.

The strips average $1 per strip without insurance!!

Diabetes is a very expensive disease to have. The mail order sites on TV don't disclose that you have to be on SS benefits to get the supplies free from them. The convenience of recieving the supplies every 3 months in the mail is good, but you still have to pay what the insurance company won't cover. Co pays, etc.

lol ya it does

Be careful and don't skimp on supplies. Some cheap meters and supplies can give wrong results causing re-testing or errors in medication. Read some info at this site:
