Sweat Chloride Testing for Cystic Fibrosis?!

Question: Has anyone personally been through, or had a child go through the sweat chloride testing for CF? My son, 22-months, is scheduled for this test in a few weeks, and I am just wondering what to expect? I had done a lot of research on it, but its always better to hear personal experiences rather than just reading about it on line. Any information would greatly be appreciated!!! Thanks!

Yes. My granddaughter had the sweat test done at around 3-4 weeks old. Both parents are carriers. Her PKU came back abnormal for CF, so the sweat test was ordered. It is a very routine test; no discomfort to the child. Results usually come back in 2-3 days. Just make sure it is an approved testing center through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Her results came back positive. She is now 7 months old and having a pretty rough time with symptoms. She is having a very hard time gaining weight. I hope everything turns out OK with your 22 month old.

Sweat test is to determine the sweat chloride.Which is a part of investigation for C.F. Nothing to worry. Let the result come.

my oldest son had 3 test, my younger dd had it once and my youngest son had it twice...my kids asthma mimics CF so the boys both ended up having blood work done to make sure the negative wasn't a false negative.

The test is easy...completely non-invasive. They basically put a couple of wraps on the child and let him play for a while and then take the wraps off.
