The biggest risk factor in developing cancer is age - as we get older we are more likely to develope cancer, not much we can do about that!

The next biggest risk factor is enviromental factors, smoking, exposure to harmful substances, including excessive UV radiation, lack of exercise, being overweight, eating unhealthy foods...... All these things we can do something about and we should!

The third risk factor is genetics, it only acounts for about 5% of cancers, and again there is not a lot we can do except monitor ouir helf if we know we are at risk.

You have mentioned grandparents and great granparents in the list. How old were they? Was age their bigest risk factor?
were they all the same type of cancer? There are hundreds of different types and a genetic link to one does not mean you are more likely to get another type.

IF all these relations had the same tyoe of cancer, and developed itunder the age of 60, then you should be investegating thouroughly.

Otherwise, make sure your Dr knows the family history when you go for your next check up, and get them to recommend a monitoring program based on your risk factors.

Meanwhile, don't stress to much as stress is another of those enviromental factors we should try to avoid!

first of all you need to know what type of specific cancer it is!
Know what it's affects are and symptoms then talk to your doctor
also you can go to harvard medical's program on the internet and look up wich specific cancer you wish to learn about and how it was discover and everything
