How long will it take to get your energy back after a severe asthma attack?!
Question: Had a severe asthma attack 3 days ago and was taken to the ER where they gave me 2 nebulizer treatments and 60 mg of prednisone. I have two more days of taking 50 mg of prednisone and then I ween off to 40mg for 3 days, then 30 mg for 3 days, 20 for 3 and then 10mg for 3. I was also given an antibiotic (z-pack) b/c my doctor today told me it was either bronchitis or a cold that triggered the attack.
It's been three days since the attack and while my breathing is getting easier, I'm still groggy and don't have much energy. How long will this last?

When I have an asthma attack with no cold, bronchitis, etc., I usually feel fine within hours. However, if I have cold/bronchitis it's usually a couple of weeks. I had asthmatic bronchitis bad enough to be hospitalized for almost a week once and I didn't feel myself for three months. When we can't oxygenate as well as we normally do it makes us tired and sleepy. The meds can make you feel that way too.
my 3yr old son just got out of the hospital bout 2 weeks ago, and he is still on meds for his asthma attack....pulmicort..steriod..for at least another 3months..singular also
