The vaccination is not 100% effective. He should start breaking out in little dots all over very soon which grow bigger and then will crust over - and the dots will be vey itchy. The whole thing takes about a week. I'd work under the assumption that your two-year old may get it next, though the vaccination may protect him. Incubation is about 2 weeks, so your other child may start in about 2 weeks. And if you and your spouse have not had it and have not been vaccinated, you can pretty much count on getting it too. It's highly contagious.

Baths in baking soda for itching really help and Tyelnol for the fever work well.

No, chickenpox don't really need any help.

My oldest son got the chicken pox and the younger son followed two weeks later. Some kids get alot of spots, others not so many. Some itch like crazy, others not so much. Wash with baking soda, use calemine lotion and give him a antihistamine if it starts to itch too badly. For the most part they usually come through it ok.

you poor thing my 5yr old had his 1st day back at school today after 2wks off with chicken pox! my doctor prescribed benydril cream and it was great he still has a few scabs but not contagous any more good luck

These tips can help you feel less itchy:

Keep cool because heat and sweat will make you itch more.

You might want to put a cool, wet washcloth on the really bad areas.

Trim your fingernails, so if you do scratch, they won't tear your skin.

Soak in a lukewarm bath. Adding some oatmeal to your bath water can help relieve the itching.

Have your mom or dad help you apply calamine lotion, which soothes itching.

here is the website i got that answer: (there is more info)

The length of it and severity of itching and when it will start all vary from kid to kid. Just lotion him up to calm his skin. Constantly watch him, because kids almost always scratch even if they say they won't. Scratching the marks can leave really bad scars into adulthood. It's better to get it at an early age, because it can actually kill adults.
