Is this wrong?!

Question: today at school i fainted from low blood sugar :( i get low blood sugar episodes a lot if i dont eat enough or skip breakfast. well this morning we were taking a test and i started feeling bad and shaking a little, so i got one of my friends to get my teacher and see if they could go get me a snack and some juice, because i knew i needed a snack. well my teacher said no and that were not allowed to eat in class, but i told her my blood sugar was low and i didnt have time for breakfast this morning. she just said that wasnt her problem. then i just asked if i could go to the nurse but she said after the test, and i couldnt wait that long. well i got up to turn in my test, and next thing i remember im laying on the ground and everyones crowded around me, and then the school nurse comes and finally get a snack, after i passed out. i hate having low blood sugar. im not diabetic, but its SO annoying and embarasing. this isnt my first time either. anyways was my teacher wrong for that?im 16

it is very wrong the way your teacher acted. you have a medical condition that needs to be taken care of. carry a bag of m&ms in your purse all the time so when this happens again you wont pass out...if your teacher ever does this again, just start eating them. she legally cannot keep you from treating your medical illness. just to be on the safe side, make sure the principal of your school, and the nurse have information from your doctor stating your medical condition. if she were able to see that there was something wrong, she wouldn't keep you from doing what is necessary, but sometimes people are ignorant and think that just because they can't see it, it doesn't exist or isn't urgent...and this thinking is entirely wrong. i had some serious issues with teachers and whatnot throughout school with my diabetes, so i know how much of a problem it can be.

The teacher is wrong for treating you that way; she should be more understanding. Make sure you stay away from foods that contain high fructose corn syrup or other artificial sugars & sweetners to supplement your sugar intake because they are not healthy at all and could lead to type 2 diabetes.

Yes, your teacher was extremely wrong for not letting you go to the nurse. I suggest that you get your parents involved with the school principal on this matter immediately. Meanwhile, talk to your doctor about this. You may need further testing for this situation. Also, while you're with your doctor, have him/her write a note to be on file in your school. If a teacher ever refuses to let you go to the nurse again and something happens to you, I suggest you sue the crap out of that school!

sorry to sound harsh but you're an idiot for not taking better care of yourself. if u know you need to eat then MAKE time for breakfast. if you know your teacher won't let you eat in class, throw something down on your way there. it's your responsibility to prevent these spells not hers. forget asking if your teacher was right or wrong, ask yourself why YOU didn't plan better.

I have been a diabetic for over 15 years, and what I would suggest is having your parent(s) schedule an appointment with your doctor, explaining the situation. They should ask for a fasting A1C test, which just means the lab would draw some blood, and run some tests on it. The fasting part would mean no eating ANYTHING after midnight, so that they can get an accurate reading. This test can determine whether you are diabetic or not. It's entirely possible that you ARE diabetic.

Yes this is very wrong. I am diabetic and when I was in university I had permission to carry juice, water and candy into all tests and exams.

When I am stressed my BGL's go out of whack leading to unstable BGL's - highs and lows. If it is high, I need to go to the bathroom A LOT!! I was always allowed to go to the bathroom but I always had an escort who checked the cubicle before I went in to make sure there were no cheat sheets stashed somewhere.

You are being discriminated against because you have a medical condition and that my friend is not only morally reprehensible but it is against the law.

See you doctor for an accurate diagnosis and consider wearing a medic alert bracelet once you find out what is happening to you.

Your parents also need to meet with your principal AND the teacher involved. This is serious stuff here.

Finally, take care of yourself. At 16 you are old enough to know what is and isn't good for you and to skip meals is foolhardy when you know what the consequences could be.

Yes it is wrong. You are what is known as Hypoglycemic. It is often a prediabetic condition.
