Cold and asthma?!

Question: I was told that a cold or bronchitis had caused a severe asthma attack. But I only had the sniffles for a few days and wasn't really experiencing a bad cold. I took cold medicine one day and Airborne another day. When I blew my nose, it was yellow, but aside from that my body didn't feel run down, as it usually does when I have a cold. And the sniffles didn't last long.

Is it true that a very small cold can act up your asthma that badly? I was sent to the ER because of the attack I had and am now on steroids.

I am answering this with a tissue in my hand an my inhailor in my coat pocket nearby.... yes a cold can make your asthma act up. Any of the gunk from your nose can travel down the back of your throat and get into your lungs. This usually occurs when you sleep. The mucus going into your lungs can cause (buildup of gunk and thus asthma etc) but also irritation and trigger asthma. Things that help= take a decongestant every 6 hrs. (pseudafed). Use a humidifier in your bedroom- keeps lungs moist and calm. Prop up your head with a small towel under your pillow while you sleep.
Best of luck. Have some soup with me? Achoooo!

Yes simple colds can be an asthma trigger. If your snot is yellow, and stays that way for 7 days, you may need to see a doctor.
