Cardiomegaly is a big heart, a big heart is MOST FREQUENTLY caused by long standing hypertension. There are other causes more infrequent like Chaga's disease, alcohol, etc., etc. The heart like any other muscle tissue if it is worked out will grow bigger to produce more force. Unfortunately your biceps muscle is nice when bigger but not your heart because it has to be hollow so that the blood fits inside of it. Hence a big heart will pump less blood.
If you have hypertension it can be controlled with many very good available medications, at the same time diet and exercise will improve hypertension and even make you normotensive without the need for medication. So to finish answering the question and not digressing if you have cardiomegaly you most probably have hypertension anyways.

This would take a textbook in Medicine to answer. There are several causes of cardiomegaly,almost all bad. Hypertension is one.
Hypertension is bad news as well, with increased risk of stroke, kidney failure, heart failure, etc.
