What happen if you get a blood transfusion and your?!

Question: blood not compatable?

Answers: blood not compatable?

The first poster is more or less right.

Yes, reactions can be serious...that is why blood must be typed and matched. The only exception to this is a transfusion of O negative blood, which is the universal donor. However, even though all blood types can receive O negative, there is NO guarrantee that a reaction will not occur.

Although it's rare, a reaction can be life threatening or even fatal.

EMT

If you are not compatible you will have a severe reaction to the foreign blood. Your defenses will attack the foreign blood components and a severe reaction (like the one you get when you are allergic to something and you get exposed to it )will happen but more severe that can take you to shock (called anaphylactic shock/allergic shock). Fortunately this does not happen very frequently because of prior type and crossing from the blood to make sure you are compatible.

Pain, lots of pain.

Recently, I read about a child who was O negative. The child had a blood transfution and given the wrong type of blood. The child was given O Positive blood! Strangely, the child's own system turned to O positive (as weird as this sounds). When the system changed all the body's blood to the postive RH, all the shots and vaccines had to be given again. This is all very strange to read about and It is a concern. Since I am AB Negative, these type things worry me!
