Horomone treatment and Lactating?!

Question: Ok before everyone bombards me with "Go see your Dr!" Let me just get it out first. My good friend has a10 year old and 1 year 7month old premi. Unfortunately my friend has ovarian cysts and already had one ovary consumed by the cyst alone. She has seen her Dr. a billion times about removing the other but no luck. The Doc's decided to put her through early menopause (horomone treatment) to see if the sever pain from the cyst will stop. Now mind you its been a while since she has given birth to her previous child. All of a sudden she started lactating out of no where! Her breast do not hurt, she shows no signs or symptoms of illness. . . however she is very concerned....Shes suppose to be going through menopause....Not lactating. Does anyone have a clue on whats going on??? We have tried to contact the Dr's but no luck..(FYI thats the military Dr's speaking for you!)....Your comments and advice on any experiances would be appreciated.

Lactation is a sign of fluctuating hormone levels, similar to what happens during menopause. You didn't say what hormone she is taking. and that might help explain what is going on. At the very least, it does suggest that the therapy is not working well, and is evidently at odds with the hormones she herself is still producing. It can be tough to fool mother nature sometimes. It may be her body thinks she has become pregnant- which would not be unreasonable if what they are doing is supressing ovulation, like with a birth control pill. Lactation in and of itself isn't necessarily doing any harm- aside from being rather inconvenient, it is what breast tissue is supposed to do. At least it's doing something right, even if the timing is inappropriate. Unfortunately this will have to land back in the doctors lap for a fix. I don't know why they should balk at doing the surgery. She has two children, and obviously is not a childless 20 something. But perhaps now she will have more ammo to argue the point with.
