Please help me!! coldsore!!?!

Question: I get a HUGE coldsore on my bottom lip on the right side about once a year. I have a blister looking thing right below it on my skin and my lip swells up HUGELY. Well this year its worse because I just had the flu, but now it has a hard yellow like...skabbish thing on the top of it, and I can totally peel it off

so I'm wondering if i should peel it off and put carmex directly into the sore?

This year it much bigger than it was before and it doesn't hurt as much, but it is definitley distracting, and embarrassing. What do I do??!

Don't peel it you can make it spread that way. You can even get them in your mouth and your eyes. Leave it alone, and just keep it moisturized with the carmex. There are other cold sore meds that you can use they all work different with each person. So you just have to try until you find one that works. Also there is a pill-for future use- that your doc, dentist can prescribe you. Not exactly sure of the name but it's 3 pills that you take all together within the hour that you feel the sore coming up and it will stop it. And there is a cream called Zithromax (or something similar) and it works excellent and doesn't take much to apply. Your doc may have samples that will last a while.

DONT PEEL IT OFF...beleive me i have something like that now....put carmax on it but it really wont do anything...to stop the swellin put ice on it a couples times a day as long as you can stand it....or try to go to ur doc. to get zovirax..it works really good and it clears it up faster...good luck!

DONT peel it! It will heal faster if you let it scab over. Carmex is a good idea, also there is an over the counter drug called Abreeva that works really well.

make sure you replace all your chapsticks, lipglosses, and toothbrushes when it is healed!

I used to get those once or twice a year myself. Whatever you do, DO NOT peel the scab or blister. Every time you do that, it will make it last longer and possibly spread.

I have never found anything OTC that gets rid of my cold sores. I get huge nasty ones and they used to take sometimes 2 weeks to go away.

Going to my doctor is the best thing I've ever done. He writes me a prescription for Valtrex. You take it right when you feel that tingle on your lip, before the sore actually develops. It tackles the cold sore before it gets all oozy & gross.

I highly recommend it. It is the same Rx that is used for genital herpes, but obviously cold sores are from the same type of virus....

Try it - it will be the best thing you've ever done. As a secondary measure OTC Abreva helps a little.

You'll only be kicking yourself in the head for picking at it. Resist the temptation to pick. This scabbing is a part of the healing process and picking it will only prolong this by irritating it and/or causing it to spread. Leave it along and you'll notice it starting to disappear in a few days. Keep applying the Carmax to keep the scab moisturized, which helps it heal faster as well and prevents scarring.
