First, is she monitoring her blood sugars? That will give you an idea of how out of control her blood sugar is. The next step I would recommend is consulting a nutritionist. They would be able to explain what kind of diet she should follow, and how to incorporate the diet into her lifestyle.

Good luck and good for you for being involved!

well, you need to research all the facts of what not taking care of your diabetes can do to you, then share with her with a tone of concern not hostility (you dont sound hostile anyway, so shouldn't be a problem). If her diabetes worsens, she could possibly be looking at kidney failure leading to dialysis, peripheral neuropathy which causes pain and amputation of legs and feet at times, diabetic coma leading to possible death, high blood pressure, not to mention the sick feelings you get anyway just by your blood sugar being too high, too low. With two children now, I hope your wife realizes how important it is to take care of herself, if not for you and her, for them! best wishes!

A few Ideas: You are right to be concerned and I wish you the best of luck, perhaps your wife would benefit by making a special appointment with her Doc, or get a referral to work with a nutritionist. Your local hospital may have diabetes self management program ( most do now) available for little or no cost which will be a support group for her and you ,too. Maybe you can offer to keep an eye on the young ones while she attends. There is an interesting book called "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Furhman which addresses dietary issues.

That's easy first a coma then death so try to get her to think of you and kids if not then goodbye

i assume a doctor would have caught this, but you never know: did she have gestational diabetes? it is possible her diabetis was temporary. now that she is pregnant again she is getting all the pregnant cravings. maybe with this pregnancy she is not feeling the negative effects of diabetis, just the normal symptoms of pregnancy.

suggest she go to the doctor to find out if she is currently diabetic. (s)he may tell her her diet is fine, or she may need to go back on the old diet. then you will know for sure if her diet is dangerous.
