I only had it once in my life, thank the blessed Lord. I threw up multiple times over two days before I finally started feeling better.

Try to keep down some water, or cold ginger ale so that you do not get too dehydrated while you are sick.

It would depend on the person who is suffering from the poisoning. I have had it once. It was not a good thing. My symptoms, nausea and diarrhea, lasted for about 3 days. I only threw up a few times for the first 3 or 4 hours. It's important to stay hydrated if you get food poisoning.
