I think there is eventually a point when you just realize it,
when you realize that you care about it more than anything else, and want to feel high or drunk all the time..
or when you do it to cope all the time.
I think it's different for every person though.
When you can no longer enjoy yourself without it, or you can't stop thinking about how much better you'd feel on the drug.
Or, if you are low on money and you find yourself doing anything for cash to get it. Pawning things, stealing, and begging for money, etc.
