Question: when and what changes have you noticed in yourself when you gave up?

I quit in 1984 after about 25 years.
2.5 packs a day.
Food will taste better
You will be able to enjoy things that smell good.
Just think of the money you will save.
MAIN THING IS DO NO CHEAT
You do not stop smoking, you just go another day
smoke free.

I think the worst thing people do is throw all their cigs. away.
Keep one UNOPEN pack and matches.
I had a pack in my lunch box for over a month, but I was stronger than they were.
Wrap it in duct tape if you have to, but don't open it.

Which is worse not having cigs or not smoking?
Your Will Power will get you thru the hard times.
The first day is the hardest, after that you KNOW you can do it.
You will notice a difference in about 6 months.
GOOD LUCK

I quit smoking two years ago. I can walk up a hill and not feel like I'm dying. I just feel overall better. I don't get headaches like I used to when I smoked and no more coughing in the morning.
It takes awhile for the coughing to go away, months, and it's a reality check how much crap you will cough up after you quit.
After the first 6 months I felt a real difference.
I think cigarettes made me lazy in some areas.
I gotta tell you though it's been two years and they still smell good! I still get the urge sometimes.

i am a smoker that tries to quit often. smoking certainly does NOT make me lazy, nor less productive. I do not smoke during the work day and i am a very ambitious individual.

I used to feel like killing people when they annoyed me, now i can smile at them while i light a cigarette. Yes, i am taking time off my life by smoking, but i am also now leading a stress free life.

yes... because you have less lung capacity, which means you get discourage and less active, which will further lower your lung capacity... and the cycle continues.
