What is causing this?!

Question: I have a dad with Diabetes, and we have just recently started new medication, and now he is not being about to urinate, or go number 2. We gave him a laxitive today and it worked for the number 2 part, but he is still not urinating.

The doctor who prescribed this medication needs to know what is happening. I understand that your dad has seen the doctor, but does this doctor now know what is going on right now???

Failure to pass urine can be very serious and giving more fluids is not the answer. If there is a blockage the back pressure form urine building up can cause permanent damage to the kidneys.

Let your doctor know what is going on.

first, don't give him different prescriptions. because diff combination might cause death. and maybe he is eating some food he is not suppose to eat, that makes his diabetes worse. just control his food.

Could be affecting his kidneys, I would call the doctor.

ive had a friend with a simaler problem, he was in the hospital, and couldnt urinate ,it had been a few days, so unfortunatly they had to do a simple operation where they have to insert a small tube into the bladder and they can empty it on the spot. pretty speedy procedure. Most the time it can be just a small "clog". after procedure everything usually reterns to normal. But, i would get him simple checkup to determine for sure. good luck

It is possible that he is having a bad reaction to the medication and it is making him dehydrated; his body is wanting more and more liquid, so there in nothing for his body to get rid of. I would suggest talking to his doctor and having him drink more water in the meantime. Hope he feels better!!

wish you would have mentioned the name of medication. If doc put dad on Effixer for pain control{effixer}is a anti-depressant. The doctor gave me this and it swelled up my prostate so as I could not pee.The constipation is a toss up. Maybe coincidental.
The meds that work for me is:carbamazepin{anti-seizure , mania, neorapathy "pain from diabetes" ,And a vitamin [mecobalamin]..In days the pain was gone. Before I ate Tramadol like they were candy. I bet you dad has neoropathy.
Oh, by the way my doc said effixer didn't cause prostate swelling. He had to apologize!
