Are there any problems that may occur from using a decongestant spray for more t!

Question: Yes I asked a similar question last week and I was amazed to find that some of the ingredients found in over the counter decongestant sprays are considered lethal if used for any length of time.

So instead I have adapted my aromatherapy steamer to take opus oil or vick and use it as steam inhaler. Works great.

Or better still contact your doctor first if you have any doubts about using a decongestant.

Some sprays dry out the nose and can cause it to become sore and inflamed. I'm not sure about long-term problems, but if you're needing to use one so much, I would recommend a visit to the doctor's.

You would become totally decongested. No need to pay any more congestion charges.

Long term use is NOT good. A couple weeks may be OK, but with long term use you can get a rebound effect. You should speak to your doctor if your congestion has lasted that long. You could have a sinus infection or may need allergy medication.

These sprays are very bad for you. Did you read the warning label? You can become addicted to them easily-that is, you can't breathe without it after awhile. You will also get dehydrated and could develop sinus infections because of this. Dehydration of the body will result in long term kidney damage if you're not careful. Take a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day to combat allergic reactions and cold and flu symptoms. These will lessen over time with local honey.

Oxymetazoline hydrochloride is the one to look out for. It is found in Afrin, Mucinex Nasal Spray, Nasivion, Vicks Sinex and Zicam. This nasal spray should not be used for more then 3 days in a row. Otherwise you run the risk of becoming addicted to it. Its called the rebound effect.
