Why are so many doctors in south Florida so incompetent?!

Question: For the last 18 1/2 yrs I have been living with a transplanted kidney which has been working really well over the years. I moved to south Florida 8 yrs ago and in that time I have not been able to find a good kidney specialist who knows what the heck they are doing here in Florida. A few of them even told me right up front on the very first visit they want to switch my medication from the current stuff I am on to something wihch is newer. That one Dr in particular didn't know anything about me or my past medical history since I had just met him only 2 mins before he told me this. I told him his services are not needed as a nephrologist and I walked out. I knew what he was telling me was all wrong since my doctors in NYC (who are considered to be among best in the country) told a long time ago to never switch your meds since this can cause a chronic rejection episode to occur. Of course, if my current meds were causing a serious problem and a change was needed.

I'm afraid it's for the same reason doctors everywhere are so incompetent. Sorry I can't tell you why that is, but you are not alone in having to see incompetent doctors. Hang in there. If they're incompetent, fire them. See another doctor. And another, and another.

Sorry to hear that but, REST ASSURED it isn't only in Florida!
Maybe you could contact one of your NYC Doctors and ask for a 'Referral'?
I've run into 1 or 2 here in California...sometimes I think the Sun, out on the Golf Course "bakes their Brain"!

If you are anywhere near the University of Miami, perhaps you should go there. Every doctor has drugs he thinks work better, or he knows how they work better than other drugs. You tend to use what you know best. I agree with you, though- if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Now however you have an infection and are immunosuppressed. Better go to the University - better yet, try to get in as a private patient of the chief of the department. They usually see some private patients.
