Fellow nurses/doctors, please help me...bronchitis?!
Question: I seem to have bronchitis from Hell!! I woke up yesterday coughing so bad that I was throwing up, and I had/have a fever of 101.1, the lowest I have gotten my temp since yesterday is 99.7. I went to see my dr. yesterday and he put me on Zithromax, and Symibcort and told me to use regular otc robitussin. I get bronchitis about 2 times a year but never like this. My entire body hurts, my throat is killing me from coughing so hard, and I can't seem to catch my breath when walking from my bathroom to my bed (the rooms are right next to each other). I have had to call off yesterday and today, I cannot work coughing like this. Do you know of anything else I can/should try to help with this cough? I'm starting to wonder if it is pneumonia b/c the sputum I have is green and a lot of it. I have audible wheezes and I can feel junk in my lungs rattling around. Should I call my doctor again, or give it another day on the meds? Thanks in advance!

I would call your doctor, and just tell him/her what you are still experiencing and see if they can order you a chest xray. Sounds like you may have more than bronchitis.

I know you are hurting and feeling like crap but if you just saw the doctor and he put you on antibiotics, then give it at least 48 hrs
A fever is not always a bad thing. Did he suggest any decongestants? If not you could call his office and talk with his nurse, after checking with him/her the nurse can suggest one
Drink lots of fluids, get lots of rest and take your meds. And of course wash your hands frequently

Call your doctor and get some other medication. It does sound like pneumonia. I got sick a couple of years ago with about the same thing you have and finally went to the doctor and I had pneumonia. Your health and well being is just too important to put off calling the doctor.

i had pneumonia but now the coughing is too crazy
