Dead serious question...?!

Question: I don't want a sugar-coated answer, just give it to me how it is. My grandfather died of cancer, my cousin died of cancer, my aunt survived breast cancer, my uncle survived skin cancer, my grandfather almost got lung cancer. I know cancer victims almost always have a family history of it. I have a feeling, well more, like I know that I will live a short life. What are the chances that I will develope cancer in my lifetime? I don't use sun screen, I just can't stand it, and my mother smokes around me. My sister had a nightmare last night that I died, and I had a dream that I met Jesus last night. It's all so real, and I can almost feel that my time is coming.

two things. 1 you have just as much of a chance of getting killed in a car crash or something. 2 God has a plan for you for instance there was a missionary that was flying some bibles to a tribe to teach them about God and the plane crashed killing him in the proses, but the tribe happened to find the bibles at the crash side and the whole tribe read the bibles and started to believe in God. so no matter what God has a plan and a reason.

wen its time its time dot wory obut it engoy your life wile you can i say 65%

Wow. There is someone on this site that can actually spell and has a good grasp on grammar. Too bad you're so dark and gothic.

Geez! Get a grip. Of course it is genetic. Duh. But genetics indicate a predisposition to it, not a fatalistic fact. You are, like, 50/50. If you take care of your body and get screened for cancer every year, then you'll be fine! Wear sun screen (they make sun screens that feel light as air, go find one). Eat right, exercise, avoid your mother's cigarette smoke and get a better attitude.

If you don't perk up, then you'll be a downer. Nobody likes a wart on the @ss of humanity.

I've been treated for cancer 3 times and I'm 100% healthy and perfectly fine. Don't be do depressing. Tough things happen. Life isn't fair... but learning to deal with these things is part of growing up.

first let me say don't worry so much. you should worry when there is a reason to worry. if you get cancer its just meant to be. my family doesn't have a history of cancer and i have breast cancer. I'm told that they will keep my cancer in control and keep it from spreading any further, but i feel as if I'm not promised tomorrow and neither is anyone else. so why worry about it. when its our time to go there is nothing any of us can do to stop it. ease up on yourself and enjoy life.

Only 5-10% of cancers are genetic. The fact that all the types of cancer your family suffered are all so diverse shows that it probably isn't a genetic tie (if you had said everyone had had breast cancer, you would be at much higher risk of having inherited a risky gene).

If you want to avoid developing cancer, stay slender, exercise regularly, don't eat too much red meat, drink heavily or smoke at all. AND USING SUNSCREEN. Seriously. My cousin died this summer a few weeks after her 29th birthday of melanoma. Skin cancer is seriously bad news. Use sunscreen or avoid the sun completely.

I say get some good insurance and go for a cancer screening once a month. That way you will have a peace of mind that you dont have it and if you do get it you will catch it early enough you just might survive. This site has alot of great info on cancer- http://www.564l.com

dont worry, your ok! just enjoy your life.. no one can predict hte future except
God and Jesus USe sunscreen even tho you dont like it or else suffer the consequences.. and eat tonsss of tomoatoes they have antoxidants. find other foods with antioxidants too. i have a t tonnnn of concer in my fa too and i hate tomatoes but i still eat em... i love my life so i do what ever it takes!!!
hang on in there bub!

what do you mean your grandfather ALMOST got cancer. you either do or you dont, you dont nearly get it... stupid question.

Cancer is hereditary. But there are chances of you not getting it. People about 50 yrs or older are more prone to cancer.

Not smoking, eating a healthy diet, and exercising moderately for at least 30 minutes each day reduce cancer risk by more than 60%. Taking Vitamins A, C and E is good too.

If u r still insecure have a general check-up.

And dreams are just a pigment of your imagination. If you think about certain things too much there is a high probability u will dream about it.

Stay away from ur mom when she smokes. Everytime u inhale smoke, 7 min of ur life will be gone. 2nd hand smoking is more dangerous than first hand. Since first hand smokers usually make the smoke circle aroung there throat then breathe it out. Unlike 2nd hand smokers who inhale all of it.

You can inherit a tendency to get some particular cancers, but you won't definitely get that cancer.

Scientists have identified some high risk faulty genes but these are rare in the general population. One example of a high risk gene is BRCA1. Women who carry a faulty BRCA1 gene have an 80% chance of getting breast cancer at some point in their lives - but this still means that one in five of women with the gene will not get breast cancer.
