Question for any Gastroenerology person or an RN?!

Question: please... My husband has a history of IBS, but for last 2 months he complains of "tailbone" pain. I just got him to go to see GI doctor today and he had pain upon digital exam, and the doc did not even go in very far at all. he told the doc he has had a "flat" looking stool for several weeks and has pain when going. The Gi doc scheduled him for a colonsocopy for next week and the doc told him" you have something going on" but was vague. The doc did ask if he had blood in his stools or if he hd lost weight. Please I am just sick that he may have cancer, he is only 37, do you think it could be cancer?

That is always a possibility. With IBS, they could find a section of bowel that is so inflamed it might need removed, it could be a large polyp, internal hemorrhoids or cancer to name a few. Hopefully it is one of the more minor things rather than the major one. Try to find something else to think about this next week until the procedure is done, the stress and worry can make you ill, same with your husband. Good luck next week.

If the MD was that concerned, he would have scheduled test sooner. Also, your husband didn't have any blood in his stool.

He may have polyps or hemorrhoids.

I know it can be difficult , but try not to think ahead. If it is something, it can often be treated with good results.

Doesn't sound like cancer to me.
Colo-Rectal Cancer usually involves blood
in stool or tarry stool.
The GI is doing the right thing by advising a
colonoscopy test. Polyps could cause this
pain and/or be a reason for his IBS.
If it is IBS alone, changes in diet will help
significantly. Find out what triggers the IBS
and avoid those foods.
Flat stool can be caused by a narrowing of
the bowel or spasm. This can be easily treated.
