Donated blood and got a very confusing letter about Hepatitis C..help?!

Question: It said it noticed antibodies which may be due to the Hepatitis C virus but then it said that it did two different confirmation tests for Hepatitis C which came back negative but it ended on the note saying that I shouldn't donate blood again and I could use the letter to show my doctor.

It was confusing. I mean do I or don't I?

This may mean that you were exposed and infected with Hepatits C at some point in the past. There is a common misunderstanding that once you have a virus you will always have it for life.

In fact, with many viruses, a certain percentage of those infected actually 'clear' the virus from their body. Thisis the case for Hep B, HepC, HPV etc,. It may be that you had Hep C, your body cleared it while it was in the acute phase and the tests are simply picking up the antibodies that you still have in your system. People who clear these viruses usually have the antibodies to them circulating in their system. Hence, the antibody tests for Hep C came back positive, but the actual viral load tests that look for the virus itself were negative.

Of course, it is impossible for me to tell for certain what they meant without seeing the letter.

Hope this helps

Means you don't donate or sell plasma again, ever..

Every test has certain limitations. If the confirmation tests are negative then you probably do not have it. You were advised not to donate blood just to be on the safer side. You can repeat the test after a few months to be sure.

why are you selling plasma GO SEE A DOCTOR!!!!!!!!
or it could get ugly man.

You should not donate blood, they will not take it and use it from you anymore. And get to the doctor for confirmation, and get some treatment. Hep C is dangerous. Doctor will run more blood tests, including liver panels, to see if you really have it, and what damage it may already have caused.
Take the letter with you.
