If you are diabetic who is pregnant, it is extremely important that you have an entire experienced pregnancy care team. Various specialists, diabetes nurse, clinical dietician,etc.,. This is critical with diabetic pregnancies as they are considered to be high-risk pregnancies.

To assure that whatever method you use to lower blood sugars is safe for both you and the fetus, you absolutely must solicit advice from your own medical team that have access to your medical files.

If your doctors are suggesting taking more insulin, then that is exactly what you should do. Elevated sugars in pregnancy pose a serious risk to both you and the fetus, as I am sure you are aware.

Assuming that your doctors give the OK, exercise can be a useful way to better utilise your natural insulin production (assuming you aren't IDDM) or make better use of injected insulin. And it can be great for your over all health. But speak to a doctor before starting any new exercise regimen.

Some of the other methods of lowering blood sugar (including a restrictive diet) may be harmful to the fetus.

Please follow your doctor's advice. I have seen the effects of uncontrolled diabetes on a pregnancy and it can be truly heartbreaking. If you are having difficulties, talk to your care team.

Take care,
BJC
Good luck

Exercises and eat healthy. Gestational diabetes could be harmful for you and your unborn child. Are you talking to your OBGYN on your primary care physician, try talking to your OBGYN.

Why don't you just cure yourself of diabetes altogether and get off that insulin? The doctors say you'll be diabetic for life... if they have their way with you, because that's what they want, they want you to keep coming back and providing them with a good income.

It's caused by your poor diet -- it's not something you 'catch' or genetically 'develop' due to some hidden gene suddenly becoming active or whatever they'll have you believe.

This guy has a good book on the subject, and there are many others out there too:

I have personally met people who have been severe cases of diabetics, on insulin, prednazone, and who knows what else and they totally cured themselves through proper eating and exercise etc. -- just altering their whole lifestyle, which was the cause in the first place.
