Deviated septum and weird smell?!

Question: I'm having surgery on my deviated septum next month and can't wait because I can't breathe. I can't really smell things that good and hope the surgery will help me with that. My question is that every once in a while I smell something "stinky" and it's not me or anything around me. It's in my nose if that makes any sense. Does anyone know what that is or has anyone had experience with that? It smells like "sickness". I'm being serious too.

Could possibly be your sinuses - they become impacted and infected very easily with deviated septums (my father, brother, and husband have all had this problem, and had surgery for it - in some cases, more than once!). The infected mucus does have kind of a "sick" smell and it's possible you are just getting a little whiff/taste of the drainage, etc.

Hope this helps.
