Grapefruit breast cancer link!?!

Question: Breast cancer link
A recent study published in the July 2007 edition of the British Journal of Cancer reported that eating grapefruit every day could raise the risk of developing breast cancer by almost a third. The Study found that in the test subjects, 50,000 post-menopausal women, eating just a quarter of a grapefruit daily raised the risk by up to 30%. It is believed that the fruit boosts the levels of estrogen, which in turn increases the risk of developing the disease
According to Wikipedia.
I want to drink about 2 glsses of grapefruit juice a day at least to aid my faulty digestion. Grapefruit juice is a great option because it works fast and better than pineapple juice. I do not think I have high levels of estrognen levels naturally. What do I do?

Hi Shire. I just looked at this study. The increase risk was as high as 30% (this is a small increase!) to as little as 6% (a negligible increase).

This is the only study showing this and in the study they did not feed women grapefruit in a controlled trial - so there is a lot of room for error.

There are lots of health-promoting and cancer preventing nutrients in grapefruits. If grapefruit juice is providing a significant benefit to your health (better digestion is really important for good health!), then continue with what you are doing and don't worry about one study.

Best wishes and good luck.

If you already have high levels of estrogen, consider taking either Brevail, Dimplus or Advanced Breast support from The Vitamin Shoppe. These supplements will help protect your body from breast cancer. I only found out recently that my history of uterine fibroids was actually sign that my estrogen levels were too high. My doctor never mentioned this until I wound up with breast cancer. If I had known, I would have tried a supplement.
