You have been given really good answers here.

One thing I have learned over the years is to NOT request a diabetic meal. They are usually awful. If you fly Air Canada, they think all a person with diabetes can eat, is fish. I HATE fish so I ate my husbands meals when we flew with them.

You know what you should and shouldn't eat.

Just let the flight attendant know when you get on the plane, that you are diabetic and politely ask if they could serve your meal along with the "special" meals.

I have found flight attendants are absolutely fabulous when it comes to special requests especially when you take the time to be courteous and say please and thank you.

As far as the carrying of supplies... the FRIO pouches are terrific for travelling. They really do what they say they will do and keep insuin cool for hours and hours. I flew from Toronto, Ont. Canada to Adelaide South Austraia and my insulin arrived in top notch condition. That was almost 40 hours in transit. Check your local pharmacy or google online. There are several sizes.

Also along with a letter from your doctor, take your prescription along - some states, I believe, require scripts for syringes etc. (just in case you need extras).

I have never had a security clearance issue when flying, I fly a lot and I have been diabetic for many years.

Bon voyage!

I usually fly inside the plane but yes you can

Talk to your doctor. More than likely, you will just need to get up and walk around more often to keep blood flow level in your body and prevent clots. Sorry to hear about that diagnosis, but the best person to answer your health question is your doctor. GL.

(They actually probably hear this one a good bit too!)

no, as a diabetic, you cannot ride on airplanes. niether can hispanics, jews, golfers, pediatricians, professional fisherman, or yankees fans.

Yes, you should have no problem. Insulin and all of the related supplies are allowed in your carry on luggage. Just be sure to test your blood sugar anytime you don't feel right, and bring some diabetic-friendly snacks and some glucose tablets to prevent or treat low blood sugar while you're on the plane. Also, keep glucose tablets and snacks on hand while you're at your destination, since you'll probably do a lot of walking.

Yes, you can fly on a plane. Make sure you carry your supplies in your carry-on just in case your bags get lost as well as the fact that some of the medication is temperature sensitive and wouldn't do well in the baggage compartment.

Also, it helps to have a letter from your doctor explaining why you are carrying syringes or any other supplies. We have never had to actually USE the letter to prove it to anyone, but it is nice to have just in case. Usually we open up the gear bags and mention to the guards that my son has diabetes and they immediately close everything and send us on our way. Keep everything in the original containers as much as possible or pack them in see-through ziploc bags.

Also be sure to carry snacks and test your blood sugar more often than you would otherwise because flying can be stressful, any time differences may screw things up a bit, as will lack of sleep. Since they don't serve food on the plane, either carry enough with you or if you have any layovers, make sure you can get something to eat between flights (depending on the flight hours) and know the carbs. Meaning, carry a book of fast food exchanges just in case the only choices are McDs or Burger King.

I was just on a trip that included a flight on an airplane. You are able to travel just make sure you have everything you may need (insulin, syringes, glucose meter, testing supplies, etc.) with you in a carry on in case your luggage is lost.

You shouldn't have any problems with TSA, they didn't even ask me about what I was carrying in my bag.

If you are really concerned about flying speak to your doctor and have them give you a letter stating that you are diabetic and need to travel with your supplies readily available.

Check out the website for more information about TSA and regulations about flying with your medical supplies.

of course you can. Just make sure all your supplies are together and in one bag. I'm not sure if you would need a note from your doctor, but it wouldn't hurt to bring one. In 2006 I got through security in 3 different airports with my diabetes stuff with no questions asked.

of course you can as long as you pack some chocolate bars in your hand luggage just in case your sugars go low whilst traveling

your doctor will give you a note saying that your needles and supplies have to be with you ... yes, i fly all the time... no problem... just keep all your supplies in your carry on... not in your luggage
