Not quite sure whats wrong with my knee?!
Question: I feel the patella grinding against the femur, and there is a large range of motion in this knee also. It hurts and sometimes buckles when I walk to far or in the extreme cold which is often now. This problem has been persistent for two years. I know I hit it once and never went to the doctor. I am in the military now and am very active. The doctors here say it runners knee and nothing can be done. I am concerned with scar tissue or possible arthritus which I know is possible at my age but if that is the case I think something medical should be done. I don't know If the Dr. is wrong or not or if it could be one or more of the these things. Any advice or help would be apreciated.

Always get a second opinion. I have Rheumatoid arthritis. and this is painful. I feel that your are loosing cartilage. It could be Osteoarthritis.
My advice to you is to take some painkillers like Tylonol or Motrin.
You need to go to another doctor and get a 2nd opinion. Also, you might want to go see a physical therapist. There might be something more than just a runner's knee, and surgury might be an option if it bothers you that badly
