My asthma won't be stopped, and I'm on everything! HELP ! please! hellll!

Question: I'm already on Singulair and Zyrtec DAILY, switched from allegra and claritin because they didn't do anything. Then Atrovent, to help somewhat and control mucus secretion or whatever the hell that does. Then Advair, and for emergency meds i have xopenex/albuterol and Prendisone pill.

And even after ALL of THAT, it won't go away.

I mean after the prendisone and the xopenex, it calms down at least 50%, but it's sooooo gradual, and unpredictable.

I could be fine, and then walking in the mall, la di daa, and then I feel very very weak, faint, like I'm about to have a heart attack, chest pains slowly, and squeezing, and it's just so....weird, a very weird feeling, and then I end up feeling like I want to pass out/faint, and my consciousness goes in and out,

so I take my meds, but they take about 10=15 minutes to really DO anything, so I have to suffer and the aftermath, i usually feel drained, and this happens like every other week.

Will I keep suffering this forever!?!?

the best advice I ever had for my 3 asthmatic kids was to make their home environment as safe as possible for them. Since a person spends a long period in their bedroom, this is where we concentrated our efforts. We did the following: no carpet, curtain, books or stuffed animals stored in there. All involve dust mites and dander. kept closet door closed. Did not use any strong smelling soap or fabric softener on kids clothes, especially the bedding. Had the mattress and pillow covered with allergy covers. Did not use air fresheners, especially spray ones. changed furnace filters often and used the allergy ones. no house pets. That way, they had at least one place that the were reasonably sure the asthma wouldn't bother them. I know it sounds strict but if you can't breath, you can't breath. Also, get into shape asap. If your body is strong, you will be able to handle the attacks when they come. Also watch food. My oldest daughter couldn't eat sunflower seeds. We never figured out if it was the nut itself or the dust in the bag that effected her. Good luck, I know suffering like that is tough.

Try doing over 9000 barrel rolls

I know how you feel. i'm in a similar situation.

I can't tell you if it will ever let up. I can tell you that if you're younger you have a very good chance of it calming down or even going away.

i developed asthma when I was 13, so i don't think mine is going anywhere.

Also if you're over weight, losing weight will help.

The advair did wonders for me when I started taking it, but isn't working so well any more. asthma attacks are horrible. i could sleep for days after one. i have one almost every day.

I can only send my hope that you find something that works for you.

I have only had asthma for the last 4 yrs (I am 52) but have not been able to control it. I was recently sent to a pulmonologist (lung specialist) who changed a few of my medications and added long term prednisone. I can tell you that I am doing much better but still have an attack from time to time. I am taking singulair, allegra, claritin, flonase, foradil, spiriva, symbicort and the xopenex/albuteral and 20 mg of prednisone daily. I have a nebulizer with 2 meds to help when I can not breath and the rescue inhaler doesn't work. I know that it takes a lot of time to take all of these medications but breathing is just not an option!

It isn't curable only controllable. Work close with your doctor and ask to be referred to a pulmonary specialist if no changes are happening.

I am confused. Are you using them all together?

Any way, the best treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Do you know your triggers?

If none of that helps, have you thought of genetic diseases like Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency? It is an enzyme deficiency that presents as asthma or COPD.
