Asthmatic w/ Bronchitis: does it ever feel like u have weights on your chest?!

Question: I had a severe asthma attack a week ago and was sent to the hospital for a few hours. They said bronchitis caused it. I was given 2 nebulizer treatments and was put on prednisone. I have to take the prednisone for the next 2 weeks. Also was given an antibiotic.

It feels as if there are weights on my chest. I felt tight this morning, then I sat and rested for a few hours, was ok and did stuff but then it started getting tight and hurting again.

Is that normal?

Yes. What you are feeling is the inflammation and mucous narrowing your bronchial tubes. It feels better when you're at rest because your breathing becomes more relaxed and doesn't put as much pressure on the affected areas.

I know it can be very painful and sometimes scary, but remember that as long as you can still take a breath you're okay. There's nothing you can do besides taking the drugs you were prescribed (it can never be stressed enough-- take ALL of the antibiotics!) and continuing to rest. Don't try to do anything more than you have to, or you won't get better as fast; just relax and recuperate.

A condition that might reside simultaneously with the things you described is pleurisy. Check it out and search that word, and see if that's what you're feeling.

Best wishes for your recovery.

I have Asthma/Bronchitis too.Yes, the tightness feeling is normal. It feels like someone is sitting on my chest & i have to fight to get every breath. It's scary when you don't know if you can get one more breath.Like the old commercial says,"If you can't breathe, nothing else matters".That's very true.Good luck to you & me both.

It dont sound normal. http://www.564l.com has some good info on lung related issues.

well being sick is not normal ...lol

Its not unusual to feel chesty and not breath freely with acute bronchitis.
if your chest feels tight or you wheeze, cough alot(usually worse at nights) your airway is likely constricted.

Did u receive Inhaled/oral asthma medications in addition to prednisone, please use them. if they dont help you may need further nebulization.

Take all your antibiotics especially if you had a fever or productive /purulent sputum.
