hi dean, I am a crohn's survivor. what you are experiencing is probably a fistula which is an abnormal channel from your colon to bladder. Crohnies are prone to fistulas, fissures, joint problems, liver, pancreas, and eye troubles from either medication side effects or the disease itself.

You need to get in to see your GI asap. He will put you on flagyl in order to clear it up. If that doesn't work, he will try Remicade which is used to close up fistulas in CD pts. If it doesn't close up on it's own, then surgery may be the only option. I am dealing with my 2nd fistula in 22 yrs. right now. I know that it's something that needs to be taken care of right away.

For more information on fistulas, go to the Crohn's & Colitis of America website. They also have a live chat & hotline that is run by medical professionals well versed in IBD M-F 9 am - 5pm.

Feel free to email me if you have questions. I know exactly what you are going through. Crohn's is a pain in the butt. no pun intended.

definition of a fissure:

What is a fissure?
A fissure is a tear or ulcer in the lining of the anal canal. The anal canal is the last part of the rectum before the anus. Fissures can occur in anyone, but are more common in middle age or young adults. A fissure can be difficult to heal as it causes a spasm in the anal sphincter and aggravates itself.

Symptoms of a fissure include:

Bright red blood in toilet bowel or on paper
Painful bowel movements

What is bladder fistula?

Bladder fistula refers to an abnormal connection between the bladder and another organ or the skin. Most commonly this involves the bowel (enterovesical fistula) or the vagina (vesicovaginal fistula). Although relatively rare, fistulization to the skin can result from an injury or previous surgery in the face of bladder outlet obstruction. Vesicovaginal fistulas are seen after a urologic or gynecological surgery or in relation to gynecological cancers. Fistulas to the bowel are most commonly seen as a result of inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease or diverticulitis. About 20 percent of bowel fistulas are caused by bowel cancer. Fistulas are rarely caused by bladder pathology. Fistulas to both the vagina and the bowel may also develop as a result of previous radiation therapy.

Well, my dad has that.. and I still don't know much about it (not something you really ask questions about unless you're a doctor), but.. if you don't find anybody to relate to your problem, even if it's embarrassing talk to your doctor.. cause I mean.. those two paths don't even connect or cross paths or anything... talk to a doctor..

well, if this isn't a joke,
than you should see a doctor, because that doesn't seem normal, even for crohns

Sometimes people can develop fissures (small tunnels) between their gastrointestinal tract and their urinary tract. If you were straining it would be more likely that the pressure would cause your stool to find another (easier) way out. You need to talk to your MD as soon as possible, even if this isn't what is going on. Your urethra and urinary tract should be sterile. You have all kinds of bacteria in your stool and intestines that should not be introduced to that sterile enviroment. It can put you at risk for UTI's, bladder infections or even kidney infections (pyeleonephritis). BOTTOM LINE....Call your M.D. ASAP!

Good luck to you!

Ask your Doctor. I don't believe that those two chambers are connected at all. If it is fecal matter coming out of your penis then you need to be in the hospital to see if your colon is leaking into your gut. Even in that case, the urinary tract is a separate system all together. I think this is important enough to call your doctor on the weekend too. Good luck.
