Prednisone will rob you of Vitamin B6, D, C, Zinc & potassium ~ B6 is essential in bolstering the immune system and also essential for the effective absorption of B12, without B12 you will also be prone to anaemia ie ~ read fatigue and exhaustion, dizzy spells, fainting ~ as B12 is needed for effective iron absorption ~ iron is necessary for the production of red blood corpusles and red pigment in muscles and to promote resistance to disease.

Without sufficient Vitamin D in your system your body will be unable to efficiently absorb your calcium supplies which is also responsible for a healthy immune system and bone and teeth health and efficient digestive funcitioning.

vitamin C is a powerfull antioxidant and aides in preventing many types of viral and flu infections and plays a primary role in the formation of collagen, which is important for growth and repair of body tissue cells.

Zinc acts like a traffic director and along with telling C what to do it bolsters the power of C ~ Zinc is also essential for protein synthesis and collagen formation read growth and repair.

Potassium is essential in helping the body dispose of waste products and also aiding in clear thinking by sending oxygen to the brain.

that's the primary reason why your defenses will be down taking medicines such as Prednisone ~ you need to bolster your immunity sweety and eat more foods rich in all these vitamins.

ie ~ B6 ~ wheat bran, wheat germ, liver, fish cantaloupe, blackstrap molasses (also a good source of iron - make sure its unsulphured though, unmilled rice, eggs, oats and peanuts and walnuts

Vitamin D ~ cold water fishes such as sardines, tuna, salmon and whiting and natural sunlight

Vitamin C ~ citrus fruits such as lemons, limes and oranges, leafy and green vegies, tomatoes and potatoes, red and green capsicum.

Zinc ~ red meat, seafood (especially oysters), wheat germ, pumpkin seeds, eggs and ground mustard.

If you bolster your immune system hun then you should be in a better situation to deal with exposure to extra viral infection ~ goodness knows we can't wrap ourselves in a bubble?

Go get some eucalyptus oil from the chemist and put a few drops of it into a warm bathtub at nighttime before going to bed and soak luxuriously for 15 - 20 minutes ............. this will do a great job of loosening congestion in the chest and releasing mucuous build up. A eucalyptus oil bath will also ease the pains of sore and achy muscles.

Go get a powdered form of ascorbid acid (vitamin C) with bioflavonoids from either the health food store or chemist. The bioflavonoids will increase the effectiveness of vitamin C 10 fold. Have 3,000 - 4,000mg (3 - 4 teaspoons) daily mixed with water until the infection subsides then maintain your immunity with 1 teaspoon daily.

Most health food stores also sell a product called Zinc Fix which combines the power of vitamin C with Zinc in a powdered form. The Zinc bolsters the effects of vitamin C and this is my powder of choice for an infection ~ virus.

Drink vitamin C rich rosehips tea as this is the richest known source of vitamin C. (the organic loose leaf variety - it may be a bit more expensive but as it is organic you can generally reuse the spent leaves a couple of times as the essential oils are so potent).

Loads of freshly squeezed juices are good too.

Ensure you aredrinking plenty of pure filtered water to flush the germies out of your body .......... and keep well hydrated ....... avoid sugar as it will create a feeding ground for bacteria ~ virus, and also avoid caffeine containing beverages such as coffee, tea, soda and soft drinks, as these will only serve to dehydrate you and rob your body of essential B & C vitamins.

Take a good quality multi B complex supplement on a daily basis both now while you are sick and for future prevention methods. The B complex of vitamins is essential for healthy immune, digestive and neural functioning and will help your body deal with the extra stress of being ill.

Things such as caffeine, sodas and soft drinks, antidepressants, antibiotics, diuretics, laxatives and aspirin and most otc cold medicines and alcohol will also do a great job of robbing you of your precious B vitamins.

Nettle tea bought in the loose organic form from the health food store and brewed for 20 minutes, will help to heal and soothe a sore throat ........... the taste of nettle tea is quite bland and ordinary so perhaps spice it up with some honey or lemon juice.

Also, a good vapour inhalant when you have an infection ~ virus is to put a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil into a salad bowl of hot water and .......... being carefull not to get so close as to burn your face ......... place a towel over your head and inhale the vapours. This will do a great job of clearing your sinuses, help in reducing any temperature you may have and to loosen and remove mucous.

?Caution: Avoid using eucalyptus oil if you have high blood pressure or suffer from epilepsy ~ if either is the case simpy substitue for Tea Tree oil ~ both of which are very powerfull antiseptic and antibacterial oils?

Get some fresh air into the house during the day for a couple of hours ........... open your bedroom window and say the lounge room window to ventilate and freshen the air.

Put a capfull of eucalyptus oil into a spray bottle of warm water, shake vigourously before using and spray door knobs and kitchen, bathroom, bedroom surfaces in an attempt to torch those nasty germs ............ naturally, if you are going to do this with the toilet (including doors and handles) i suggest you use a different sponge?

Good luck ~ i sincerely do wish you all the best of health & vitality buddy?
