i'm a diabetic, and have to give myself multiple injections a day and test my blood sugar often. the funny thing is, i'm terrified of needles. insulin shots are no big deal but i completely understand blood drawing. it sucks.

your symptoms definitely need to be checked out. i had them all. when you go to your doc, tell him that you want to have your blood taken with you LAYING DOWN and feet elevated. close your eyes and squeeze somebody's hand. i swear by my life that laying down with feet up stops me from getting dizzy. i've come close to fainting, and actually fainted quite a few times during things like this so i know exactly where you're coming from.

it's good that you made the appointment, because the symptoms can't be ignored. just tell your doc that you want to lay down. i doubt he'll protest, and it will make the biggest difference for you.

i hate needles too and i understand your fear. Simply explain to the person giving you the test that you have a fear of needles. Your not the only person in the world who has such a fear. Just remember what its like to feel well again and remember what its been like to feel as bad as you have for the past few months. Keep telling yourself that the test will be nothing in comparison to how you've been feeling and that its worth it to feel better again. When you get the test, sit down, take a deep breath and just look the other way. If you've never had one before, I can tell you its very simple and hurts less than getting a shot. I felt a tiny pinch when they put it in, but I didn't even feel it when they took it out. Its worth the fear and tiny bit of pain to feel better again, right? take care and good luck

don't be scared and take the courage to go for blood test immediately ,it takes only five minutes of your time .
your health is very important.
good luck

I'm sorry you're having to have this done - I can't really give you advice about the needle part - I've been diabetic so long nothing like that bothers me. But I can tell you that you need the 4 hour glucose tolerance test to be positive you aren't diabetic.

They can put a butterfly in and draw blood from it once they get it set - and it will only hurt the once. They will also test your urine about 2 times an hour after drinking so sugary drink.

Get over it and grow up.

I was too. I went for a physical five years ago. I hated doctors, needles, pain. I had a high sugar reading. I never went back when doc said possible diabetic. I woke up completely blind in my left eye and partially blind in right eye. I wish I would have not been scared and followed up. I have to take insulin shots everyday now. I'm use to it and it doesn't bother me anymore but man do I regret it now. GO TO THE DOCTOR BEFORE THIS HAPPENS TO YOU. Good luck and don't be afraid.

Hi first of all dont be scared 16 year old boy

If you will be scared about the needles and the tests chances are that you might get the highh results.

If you dont get diagnosed/ tested how you will be properly treated. There are people who have to inject insulin more than 3 times a day and they do it by their own.

If any body in your home is a diabetic patient and has a glucometer , you can get your blood sugar checked by them as this will be less painful as compared to the lab tests where they will take you blood with the syringe.

If diagnosed with diabetics there wll be certain other tests to be performed which will require the blood sample to be taken and that time you will have no other choice , so its better not to feel scary about the the needles and the tests.
