Pancreatitis is also known as inflammation of the pancreas - the gland responsible for producing Insulin & other enzymes used in the absorption/digestion of food. There are several different causes of Pancreatitis.
One of the ways the body responds to inflammation of an internal organ is by making you feel nauseated - so that you dont WANT to eat. This is to give the inflamed area chance to rest & get better, much the same way a sprained ankle hurts so that you rest it until it gets better.
"Rich" drinks like milk, diet supplements, etc make the pancreas work to produce digestive enzymes, which causes the Pancreas to hurt more, and increases the feeling of nausea, therefore eating at present will only make things worse.
The more your mother can 'rest' her pancreas - by just drinking clear fluids, not eating, etc - the faster it should recover and the sooner she will be able to eat properly again.

If there is ANY change in her condition, or cause for further worry, get in contact with your medical help IMMEDIATELY.

Hope she gets better soon.

Your mother is probably nauseous from the various medications she is on (especially the pain medications) post operatively. Keep her on the clear liquid diet as prescribed by the doctor. The pancreas is an organ that aids in digestion by releasing enzymes into the digestive tract, as well as insulin to help with absorption of glucose. Solid foods at this point may stress the pancreas even more than it has been. Her doctor will tell you when she's ready to move up to full liquids or solid foods.

I would call and inform her doctor about her nausea, because there are prescription medications available that can help reduce those symptoms.

Take a deep breath and take it one day at a time with your mother. She'll get a little stronger everyday.

Best of luck!
