The difficulty with finding a cure for cancer is that cancer is hundreds of diseases, not just one. Different cancers are caused by different things, so no one strategy can prevent them all, and different cancers respond to different treatments so no one treatment can cure them all. There will never be a single magic bullet that cures all cancers.

Some cancers can already be cured though. Seven out of ten children are cured of cancer. Testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease, and many cases of leukaemia can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy, most skin cancers are cured with surgery, and many cases of thyroid cancer and cancer of the larynx are cured with radiotherapy.

Many other types of cancer are also cured if they are found early enough. Yes, there is still a long way to go, especially with some of the commonest types of cancer such as lung, breast, bowel and prostate cancer

There is much (underfunded) research and dedicated hard work going on in all types of cancer to try and find cures; treatments will continue to improve and cures will be found.

As for prevention...well the fact is nobody knows what causes cancer. Smoking has been linked to lung and some other cancers, and excessive sun exposure to skin cancers,. but beyond that we're still pretty much in the dark.

The things other people have mentioned - good diet, exercise etc - are of course always advisable, but they won't stop you getting cancer.

It's easier and less frightening for some people to 'blame the victim', that is to believe an individual's cancer is down to their lifestyle - bad diet, lack of exercise, stress etc - than it is for them to accept that cancer is a cruel and random disease that can strike any of us at any time.

I've been a vegetarian for most of my life and a vegan for 12 years; I eat organic fruit and veg, juice, exercise, avoid caffeine, don't smoke. None of this stopped me being diagnosed with grade 3 cancer 4 years ago, none of it has cured me, and I'd be very foolish to rely on it preventing a recurrence or metastasis.

my dad died from cancer.
I dont think there will be one soon. You can only do what you can. try to eat well and excercise and avoid bad things like smoking, working in places that have chemicals and other dangerous things. Move to a beatiful place with little pollution and live a good life.

my brother's dughter had it with treatments she became fine.
i just have one advice Dont use the microwave too much and dont stay at smoky places dont eat too much of fried food

There are some cures [if Found early], But science advances I hope a cure is found.

I am sorry about the loss of your mom.

The only way they will release a cure for cancer is if the pharmaceutical companies have a chance to make a lot of money off the treatment.

I have terminal cancer and have spent countless hours learning about this disease. The best advise I can give you is to eat properly, get plenty of rest, exercise, and stay as stress free as possible.

You have to be sure you are getting enough antioxidants to destroy any free radicals that are in your system. Of course, there is a lot more to it than just these things, but for the most part.. those things are a very good start. Oh.. and yearly check ups are a must.. if cancer is detected, early dx is so important.

I am truly sorry for the losses you have endured.

Cancer is a disease of self tissue. Saying cure for cancer is like saying cure for having arms. There are treatments that are very successful and treatments which are not very successful. There is a lot of research going into antibody treatments like the Hu3F8 antibody treatment. The website listed is parents of children with a disease of the nervous system called Neuroblastoma which many children have little or no hope with current treatments and are on a maintanence chemo to hold the disease off until they can figure something out. The parents are working on independently funding a clinical trial.

As far as preventing it, take care of yourself. Eat a wide variety of foods, fresh, cooked as little as possible (meats should be well but not over cooked), exercise, rest, and avoid things like smoking, plastics made from petrolium products, processed foods, UVA/UVB rays, etc and other things known to contribute to cancer.

I'm sorry for your loss.

There is no guaranteed way to avoid ever getting it but you can reduce your chances. Check the link for details.
