I had mine out about 4 years ago. They did it by laproscope. I have 4 incisions...one center and to the right just below my right breast, one in my navel and they other two are port holes where they put the light and instruments in. Those are just small rice sized area above my right hip and the other about six inches above that. I had intense pain right after surgery when I woke up in the area under my breast which is the one where they remove the gallbladder. I believe it was actually pain from where the gallbladder was removed inside. They gave me pain meds (Demerol) in my IV but that didn't help at all. When they finally gave me two Oxycontin within 10 minutes the pain was gone! I didn't feel that kind of pain again after that. I was sent home with a prescription for Lortab and took them sparingly after I got home. I was sore and moved around slow for a few days but the doctor released me to go back to work a week after the surgery. I didn't feel quite up to par yet but I was able to go back to work full time to my sit down job. To be quite honest the pain I had prior to surgery was much worse than the pain after. The worse part was immediately after the anaesthesia wore off. Your best bet is to address your fears with your doctor and have things lined out before surgery so your after care and pain control will be well taken care of afterward. It will take about 6 months for you to fully recover and the pain in the gallbladder area where it was removed to quit hurting but it is mild and not bad at all.
Good luck!!

havnt had it done myself but almost had to a yr ago. My aunt had hers removed and she said it wasnt too bad. she went to the hospital in the morning and was released that night. Its a pretty safe procedure, they don't even cut into you anymore, that just make 3 small incisions and with a scope remove the gallbladder. You might be a little sore a couple of days..but you shouldnt about it..its not a major surgery

My dad had his removed and was in alot of pain. They gave him pain medicine and it helped alot. My mom had hers removed also and was in pain until they gave her pain medicine. The medicine will help reduce the pain alot. You will just have to take it easy for a few days. The pain will go away with time. They will knock you out for the surgery and then give you pain medicine as soon as you wake up, so you might not feel much at all. Good luck and hope all goes well.

Dont be nervous because your nervuosness is the worst part of this experience.
I had mine out back in the day they made the big cut across the abdomen and i had to spend 9 days in the hospital.
My 14 year old Daughter had her gull bladder removed with this new method they have now and she was bounceing around within two days like nothing ever happened.
Good luck

yes had it done about a year and a half ago, and they did it with three small incisions. the one just above my navel was the worst, about an inch long. i don't think it would have been so bad but is got an allergic reaction to the adhesive in the bandage they used. only problem I've had since is that sometimes if i eat something greasy i get diarrhea

Depending on the type of surgery you are having, the recovery time varies.

Laparo-cholesectomy - through the belly button, with 2 or 3 small incisions for the instruments to fit. The recovery time would be 2 to 4 weeks, with restrictions of no heavy lifting, and bending.

Open-cholesectomy - one large incision through the abdomen. The recovery time would be 4 to 6 weeks. Again with resrtictions, no heavy lifting or bending. The recovery is longer due to the healing of the incision and stitches.

I had both done. First the laparo, but they inside incisons busted open, because I picked up my 4 yr old (weighed about 29lbs).

So they had to open and reseal my incisions.

When they say no heavy lifting...they mean it!

Best of luck to you!

I had mine removed about 6yrs. ago, alot older than you in my 40's. They said the were going to do it Keyhole, but ended up going the whole hog and cutting me open. I wasn't in much pain as they gave me pain relief, the worst thing was I had to wear a bag for about a fortnight when I came home which was in the opening where they cut me open to let all the gunge out, didn't hurt but was very itchy. Nurse came for first couple of days to empty bag and then she showed me how to do it myself, no big deal. Once I got rid of bag I was fine after about 3 weeks. Good luck and don't worry. If they do it keyhole you will okay in about a week.

no
