Why might a young woman be likely to develop ciprofloxacin-resistant bacteria?!

Question: For some, cipro is now the first choice antibiotic for urinary tract infections, even though some argue it shouldn't be. Women get many more UTIs than men, and in turn pick up resistant bacteria from, typically, not finishing their antibiotics.

Answers: For some, cipro is now the first choice antibiotic for urinary tract infections, even though some argue it shouldn't be. Women get many more UTIs than men, and in turn pick up resistant bacteria from, typically, not finishing their antibiotics.

this is due to some Dr's use of antibiotics without proper micro testing. They use drugs that are usually reserved for more resistant organisms (Acinotobacter is one example) as the first option for treating infections, such as uti's caused by antibiotic sensitive strains of E.coli, when more specific drugs like gentamicin or ampicillin are more appropriate.

Ciprofloxacin-resistant bacteria are no different to other resistant bacterium. These are normally caused by the bacterium living on, after antbiotics are finished with, or a course of antibiotics are not completed.

But then one asks the question: 'How long does a person stay on antibiotics?' 'Does your Doctor have a crystal ball?'

Antibiotics are best left alone. Using an antimicrobial agent is far better, more effective and non-toxic with no side-effects. Antibiotics cause resistant bacterium, have nasty side-effects and can destroy your immune system, leaving you open to more serious infections.

If you have been taking this to treat a UTI, I suggest you take a look at this instead:
