Is the operation successful or not?

A drain tube left in the brain is not uncommon. It is used to releve pressure and drainage from the brain. You didn't mention what the operation was for so hard to say if it was successful or not i'm sure your friends mother will tell her in time the outcome of the surgery. Maybe the doctors are still not completly sure. They may need to do CAT scans or some other forms of treatment such as radiation to predict a full recovery at this time might be presumptuous.

Yes, he survived.

you can not get a correct answer.....you want us to guess for you...
you did not give any information to help.
the drain tube is to do just that drain off excessive oozing as the brain recovers and heals....
as for what kind of surgery we and you don't know....

recover ??/ with out knowing the what ...if's and why's not possible

No one on the Net can answer that question. This is something you should talk with the doctor about. I don't think he can really give you an answer right now, the prognosis is "He's alive" and, that's all. The tubes, the bleeding, are all part of it.

Most subdural hematomas can be successfully removed and the drainage tube is normal after this type of surgery. Doctors are always cautious after surgery on the brain and are probably waiting to see how well he recovers. Her father and mother could have made a decision not to relay 100% of what the doctor has told them to their daughter, maybe in trying not to worry her so much. I am just guessing here but withholding information is their right. Hopefully he will completely recover and be out of the hospital soon.
