My g/f has a lump on her gums inside her mouth. It just came about a couple of d!

Question: It didn't get like gradually big or anything, just kind of sprouted up. Should we be concerned? She says it doesn't hurt. To answer a couple of questions, yes she is a smoker, and drinker on occassion. Should we go to a dentist to get her looked at? Is this something we need to really worry about?

Yes, have it looked at.

My first guess is infection. That is generally easy fix by getting a filling, root canal, or a pull of a tooth. These may not hurt but it could be underlying infection in the mouth and antibiotics can clear it up.

Generally, this is my opinion so please seek medical advice, smoking leads to lung cancer/copd, etc- not lumps on the gums. Maybe if she dipped or something. As far as drinking, generally that effects the liver, not a lump on the gum.

Yes, anything like that should be looked at. If she has sensitivity to cold drinks, then it could be an abscess and it will require a root canal. If you let them go to long, it can cause infection and loss of tooth and bone structure.

There are many causes of said lump. If it is large or painful she should see a doctor. It could just be a regular canker sore for which you can get an oral anesthetic at your pharmacy.

If its a canker sore, (and the way to tell is) have her avoid toothpaste for a few days. The foaming agent and flouride in toothpaste are notorious for causing and aggrevating canker sores in people who are prone to them.....have her brush with salt (just plain table salt) for a few days. If it doesnt go away in a week, have it looked at.

Good Luck
