Low on iron?!

Question: I am very low on iron, enough so that I have trouble swallowing, pain in my chest, rapid heart rate, and lesions on my tongue!

I went to a clinic when I found out that I was low on iron (I have to fire my PCP because she didn't find this problem!)...Anyway, the doctor at the clinic told me to take iron pills with orange juice...I am forbidden to take Orange Juice, due to GERD...What should I do? Wouldn't I have a reaction to any form of Vitamin C because of the GERD (the acid in it)?

Doctors recommend taking iron pills with orange juice becuase the vitamin c helps the absorption but its not something you have to do. If you dont you will absorb less of the iron on the tablets and it might take longer to replace the iron you need but it will still work. Taking it with oj is more of a recommendation to give each iron pill its maximum effect they work without it too.

Folic acid. That is what my Doctor gave me when I was low on iron. You can buy it otc now days

Green vegetables such as broccoli, green beans, Brussels sprouts, salads, spinach ... are high in iron. Breads like pumpernickel (and similar in consistency) are also a good source, as well as beet root, and, of course, red meat.

Hope you'll be better soon!

Take this answer or leave it. I'm not doing this for points either.

Your health condition is critical and you must adjust your lifestyle immediately. You could replace the orange juice with water, but those pills should be the last resort. From my expertise knowledge, you will literally be shitting bricks, if you choose to have the pills, and that won't be pleasant either.

I suggest you eat more red meat. By this I mean, lean red meat. Purchase Filet Mignon (very minimal fat - high fatty food is known to trigger GERD) and cook it using cast-iron.
The cast iron (Pro Logics) is known to dissolve iron in your food, which will allow your stomach to convert elemental iron to Iron (II). This is the most natural and 100% safe method to obtain more iron.

Secondly, if you are one of the people with OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder), you need to calm down. Any psychological stress is also detrimental in iron uptake, as well as determining the frequency of GERD. No, this is not false information that I am trying to shove down your throat. Your intestines are the only reason why you exist, as well as me and anyone else. Stress will decrease nutrition uptake by closing/hampering the villi that absorb. If you want to make the most out of what you eat, have a healthy self-image to have a happy body.

Lastly, don't ever trust the hospitals. The best doctors can not remember every single thing that they learned in medical school. Your condition is better diagnosed by doing some studying on your part through the internet/textbook. Remember you are the only person who knows the most about your body than anyone else. Don't forget that.
